Architecture New park at Sylvania created through developer-council agreement

A new park, which has been built on a challenging site at Sylvania “sets a new standard in the shire”, says developer George Hussain.

Mr Hussain’s company Shire luxury Developments upgraded Clare Street Reserve, between Princes Highway near the shopping centre and Sylvania Public School.

The project was part of a voluntary planning agreement (VPA) with Sutherland Shire Council for approval of the adjoining boutique Podium apartment development.

“Council gave us some land and floor space and in return we built the park and carried out the landscaping,” Mr Hussain said.

He estimated the project, which was overseen by the council, cost his company about $400,000, “It was quite a challenge with the sloping site and constraints of power lines and the highway, but I think the end result sets a new standard for parks in the shire,” he said.

“It required cut and fill and has retaining walls comprising two metre long sandstone logs, 50 metres of pathways, kerb and gutter asphalt and pavers.

“The sandstone logs, which had to be placed in position by crane, have created an amazing look.

“The design of the park is quite unique and a lot of people are telling us how good it is.

“It is attracting visitors and has lifted the area’s image

“Being close to Sylvania Public School, it is being enjoyed by parents and children immensely.”
